Ancient Ayutthaya ruins, a UNESCO world heritage site located north of Bangkok.
First, we visit Wat Yai Chai Mongkol located a few kilometers southeast of Ayutthaya. It is one of the major temples in the area. The temple features a reclining Buddha and a historically significant stupa.
From there, we continue on to one of the most important temple of Phra Si Sanphet, situated within the Grand Palace grounds. It served as a model for the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok. After that, we visit Wat Mahathat, a classic temple ruin of Ayutthaya and famous for the picturesque Buddha head engulfed by the Bodhi tree roots. The foundation size and the remaining prang and towers attest the significance during its time.
We will have lunch at a local riverside restaurant. In the afternoon, we will visit Bang Pa-In Palace. It was used a summer get away by past kings. There are a collection of European style buildings and halls located on the site.
